Because the war was fundamentally an ideological struggle between the democratic, capitalist United States and the Communist bloc of the U.S.S.R. and China, the strategy formulated by both democratic and communist advisory forces in North and South Vietnam conformed to accepted Cold War military practices. My leadership qualities followed me outside of school to soccer, where I gave a speech to my team about how I thought I would be a great captain. I was voted captain which gave me even more confidence and made me feel that with my leadership, I could do anything. In my high school years, I have grown to be very outspoken which helps when taking the leadership roll in the classroom. Well known prisoners that stayed in Alcatraz were Al Capone, George Machine-Gun Kelly, Alvin Karpis, and Arthur Doc Barker. At Alcatraz, a prisoner had 4 rights: food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. Everything else was a privilege and had to be earned. Privileges that had to be earned were: working, corresponding with and having visits from family members, access to the prison library, and recreational activities. Over the 29 years that the federal prison operated, 36 men, including 2 who tried to escape twice, were involved in 14 separate escape attempts. 23 were caught, 6 were shot and killed, and 2 drowned. No one ever succeeded in escaping from Alcatraz. Although, to this day, there are 5 prisoners listed as missing and presumed dead. Many destinations are enduring the terrorism and yearly seasonality problem. The research shows that terrorist attacks disturb all nations but majorly the ones which have tourism as a backbone for their survival. Data depicts that there was increasing number of missive attacks from mid of 80s to 90s. this creates the Terrophobia all around the world. People are afraid to travel to the targeted destinations because of the massive destruction done by the terrorists. And the unintentional participation of media in spreading the gossip to raise their TRPs, make the things bad to worse. Its true to say that the terrorism is inherently unpredictable as the earthquakes and tsunami. So both Government and local people have to take active steps to control such violence, by creating awareness about terrorism among peoples and by providing tight and unbreakable security. Even after so much study, still its not clear that if tourism is a honey pot for the te rrorism or they are just the victims of one of their cruel activities. No effort can lead us to abolish these problems so some precautions should be taken against them. We should learn from the previously affected destinations and should prepare ourselves for the crisis either by allocating a squad for the crises management or by assigning permissible authorities. Further research is needed to find the other factors which are responsible for weakening of trade Tourism. Also its affects in a developed or developing country is still an open minded question.

According to Dosomething. org, more than 60% of teens are doing or have done drugs at one time. Go Ask Alice should be banned from middle school and elementary libraries and only permitted at the high school level because of the use of vulgar language, the use of illegal substances, and the explicit descriptions of the activities being done throughout the book. One reason this book should be banned is the use of vulgar language. The foul language used in this book is not appropriate for middle school nor elementary ibraries, but acceptable to more mature audiences like high school.An example of this occurs toward the middle of the book when, the main character, Alice and her friend are at a party that gets out of hand and she's talking about it the next day, â€Å"Last night was the worst night of my shitty, rotten, stinky, dreary, f*cked up life. † (Sparks, 58) Another example toward the beginning of the book when she's expressing her feelings about that day, â€Å"l feel aw fully bitched and pissed off at everybody†¦ I Just want to puke all over the shitty world. † (Sparks, 82, 83) Next, nother reason Go Ask Alice should be banned is the excessive use of illegal substances.The drug use written throughout the book is not appropriate for middle school or elementary, but should be permitted for high school level. In Go Ask Alice there are many illegal substance references throughout the entire book. An example happens toward the beginning when she's at a small hang out and is unknowingly consuming a spiked drink. â€Å"Then I noticed the strange shifting patterns on the ceiling†¦ I watched the pattern change to swirling colors, great fields of reds, blues, ellows. (Sparks 25) Another example toward the middle is when she and her friend are roped into selling drugs to young kids, â€Å"†¦ so Chris and I have both had to push pot†¦ I convinced Richie that it would be easier to push acid than pot†¦ † (Sparks, 45) This u sage continues throughout the book. A third, and final, reason why this book should be banned is because of the explicit descriptions. The explicit descriptions used are not acceptable for middle school or elementary libraries, but can be deemed appropriate for high school.This whole book is very detailed and explicit in its descriptions. One of the many examples is when she is waking up after a wild party, â€Å"Well last night it happened. I am no longer a virgin! † (Keep in mind she is only 14) (Sparks, 27) Then she talks about her boyfriend, â€Å"Richie is so good, good, good to me and sex with him is like lightning and rainbows and springtime! † (Sparks, 44) Still talking about her boyfriend, â€Å"He teases me and says I am oversexed because I have been bugging him to let me try sex without being stoned first. Sparks, 46) A final example is toward the ending of the book discussing the death of her grandmother, â€Å"Gran died in her sleep last night. I tried t o tell myself that she's gone to Gramps, but I am so depressed all I can think about is worms eating her body. † (Sparks, 115) This book has sparked controversy in whether or not it should be banned to middle school and elementary. Go Ask Alice should be banned to middle school and elementary because it is not appropriate to expose them to the contents in the book.But reasons it shouldn't be banned for high school libraries is because they are a more mature most worldly things that this book shouldn't corrupt them too much. So this book should be banned for middle school and elementary but permitted to high school because of the usage of vulgar language, the use of illegal substances, and the explicit descriptions written throughout the book. Just think, would you want your young child exposed to this type of literature and have it possibly have an influence in their behaviors?

In Robert Nick's entitlement theory, you are entitled to as much property as you want, as long as it was acquired the right way. Sanctuary Springs is viewed as a public source of water. Which means Nestle is completely entitled to use the water, whether that means drinking it or pumping it to a bo ttling plant. Nestles actions are completely ethical within Nick's theory.Under John Rails theory of ethics, Nestles actions are ethical as well. Rails theory states that the action must benefit the weakest members of society. The company has built bottling plant that employs about a hundred people. The Hourglass Technique

The Hourglass Technique Most of us during school and then in our careers have to write research papers and reports and analyze. Some of us go on to write journal articles or textbooks, nonfiction books, or even novels as freelancers. At some point, we have to take a subject, narrow it to a related topic, decide on a thesis to express our idea, and write an organized text to communicate that idea or plot and its conclusions and deliver a well-received document.The problem is that too often we get lost in the process and end up straying off topic or have trouble connecting our ideas or forming a clear thesis from the topic and then an argument strategy that relates to that topic and its thesis. Why does that happen? Because we have so many ideas about our topic or so many argument points, we simply have too many cooks in the kitchen to suggest a simple metaphor.What is the solution then? Is there a clearly stated technique we can apply that keeps us from saying too much or not being focused in a paper? Yes, t here is. Its a technique I used when I taught research paper and students told me they were panicked about writing a longer paper on one topic. They wanted to write a good paper, but got lost in the process. Its the Hourglass Technique of Writing. It is really simple and actually derived from the concept of outlining, but more visual and interactive in nature (which helps a lot of writers arrange their thinking as they plan a paper).We all know what an hourglass is – two connected glass bulbs with sand that slowly flows from the top bulb to the bottom bulb through a narrow passage that connects the two. A 3-minute egg timer is a good example. The sand at the top flows through the narrow passageway into the bottom bulb until 3 minutes are up. Then we simply turn the hourglass upside down to restart the timing process again.Lets consider the image of the hourglass and think about how a broad subject for writing must narrow to become a focused topic. Then that topic needs to nar row further still to become a precise thesis statement. At that point, were at the narrow connection where the two bulbs of the hourglass meet. Using this image, we can move from the broad to the focused idea and develop a precise and significant thesis that relates back to the original topic we had when we started and produces a precisely related thesis statement. That statement becomes the precise question or hypothesis we then use to develop arguments and the discussion and work toward a logical conclusion. This downward selective narrowing process can look something like this: Main Subject narrowed to your Topic; then your Topic narrowed further downward to a Working Thesis, and finally, that Working Thesis narrowed to your focused Thesis Statement at the narrowest point in your writing hourglass.This is the first step – narrowing our ideas, so we can see the direction we want to take for the whole paper. We create our thesis statement from the too broad a subject that in trigued us in the first place and left us with too many ideas and confusion about how to proceed to narrow our thinking.So whats next? Well, we simply move to the bottom part of the hourglass – the lower bulb. Our thesis statement now becomes a new topic for developing 3-4 main argument points related to our main thesis. All these main argument points derive from and relate back to your main thesis and from there back to your original topic and overall discipline or genre needed for your work. However, we have narrowed our thinking, so each argument point is carefully set apart and becomes its own hourglass that narrows to a sub-thesis and then expands to produce related detail to argue that sub-thesis. Indeed, we can go through the same exact thinking process as we did with the major thesis statement and develop each argument points expanded detail and that support.Thus, when we have finished the journey from the top of the hourglass to the bottom, we have expanded our think ing from an original broad subject to a thesis statement and then from that statement to 3-4 main argument points. We then develop each argument point as its own hourglass to find our sub-arguments and their support. In effect, what you have is the reverse of the first narrowing process: You use your main Thesis Statement to determine your first main Argument to support it. Then you determine an Argument Thesis from which you develop Sub-Arguments and then expand those to Argument Support to deliver your details and thinking for each Sub-Argument.Each argument in your paper can go through the same hourglass process where the argument becomes a sub-topic and then is narrowed to produced a sub-thesis statement and then expanded (just like an hourglass at the bottom) to gather support, illustrations, and explanations. All of these relate back directly to your main thesis statement and your original topic and genre.Try the concept. Draw a group of hourglasses on a piece of paper and use them as separate thinking tools to help you narrow a topic visually and then expand the thesis youve discovered into main arguments that repeat the same process. You can even stack the hourglasses if you want to make the thinking process on your topic a bit more complex. Narrow each main argument into its own thesis and then expand it to contain its own argument and supporting evidence.By segmenting your thinking, youll be more precise, yet more abstract in your thinking, and definitely more creative. Youll find your thinking will be better organized and yet integrated and connected. It works. I use the concept all the time in different writing genres. Eventually, it becomes second nature and one of your key writing tools.

Major General Samuel Crawford in the American Civil War Samuel Crawford - Early Life Career: Samuel Wylie Crawford was born November 8, 1827, at his familys home, Allandale, in Franklin County, PA.   Receiving his early education locally, he entered the University of Pennsylvania at age fourteen.   Graduating in 1846, Crawford desired to remain at the institution for medical school but was deemed too young.   Embarking on a masters degree, he wrote his thesis on anatomy before later being permitted to commence his medical studies.   Receiving his medical degree on March 28, 1850, Crawford elected to enter the US Army as a surgeon the following year.   Applying for an assistant surgeon position, he achieved a record score on the entrance exam.   Over the next decade, Crawford moved through a variety of posts on the frontier and commenced a study of the natural sciences.   Pursuing this interest, he submitted papers to the Smithsonian Institution as well as engaged with geographical societies in other countries.   Ordered to Charleston, SC in September 1860, Crawford served as a surgeon for Forts Moultrie and Sumter.   In this role, he endured the bombardment of Fort Sumter which signaled the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861.   Though the forts medical officer, Crawford oversaw a battery of guns during the fighting.   Evacuated to New York, he sought a career change the following month and received a majors commission in the 13th US Infantry. Samuel Crawford - Early Civil War:   In this role through the summer, Crawford became assistant inspector general for the Department of Ohio in September.   The following spring, he received a promotion to brigadier general on April 25 and command of a brigade in the Shenandoah Valley.   Serving in Major General Nathaniel Banks II Corps of the Army of Virginia, Crawford first saw combat at the Battle of Cedar Mountain on August 9.   In the course of the fighting, his brigade mounted a devastating attack that shattered the Confederate left.   Though successful, a failure by Banks to exploit the situation forced Crawford to withdraw after taking heavy losses.   Returning to action in September, he led his men onto the field at the Battle of Antietam.   Engaged at the northern part of the battlefield, Crawford ascended to division command due to casualties in XII Corps.   This tenure proved brief as he was wounded in the right thigh.   Collapsing from loss of blood, Crawford was taken from the field.    à ‚      Samuel Crawford - Pennsylvania Reserves: Returning to Pennsylvania, Crawford recovered at his fathers house near Chambersburg.   Plagued by setbacks, the wound took nearly eight months to heal properly.   In May 1863, Crawford resumed active duty and took command of the Pennsylvania Reserve Division in the Washington, DC defenses.   This post had previously been held by Major Generals John F. Reynolds and George G. Meade.   A month later, the division was added to Major General George Sykes V Corps in Meades Army of the Potomac.   Marching north with two brigades, Crawfords men joined in the pursuit of General Robert E. Lees Army of Northern Virginia.   Upon reaching the Pennsylvania border, Crawford halted the division and gave a rousing speech imploring his men to defend their home state. Arriving at the Battle of Gettysburg around noon on July 2, the Pennsylvania Reserves paused for brief respite near Powers Hill.   Around 4:00 PM, Crawford received orders to take his men south to aid in blocking an attack by Lieutenant General James Longstreets corps.   Moving out, Sykes removed one brigade and sent it to support the line on Little Round Top.   Reaching a point just north of that hill with his remaining brigade, Crawford paused as Union troops driven from the Wheatfield retreated through his lines.   With support from Colonel David J. Nevins VI Corps brigade, Crawford led a charge across Plum Run and drove back the approaching Confederates.   In the course of the attack, he seized the divisions colors and personally led his men forward.   Successful in halting the Confederate advance, the divisions efforts forced the enemy back across the Wheatfield for the night. Samuel Crawford - Overland Campaign: In the weeks after the battle, Crawford was compelled to take leave due to issues relating to his Antietam wound and malaria which he had contracted during his time in Charleston.   Resuming command of his division in November, he led it during the abortive Mine Run Campaign.   Surviving the reorganization of the Army of the Potomac the following spring, Crawford retained command of his division which served in Major General Gouverneur K. Warrens V Corps.   In this role, he took part in Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grants Overland Campaign that May which saw his men engaged at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, and Totopotomoy Creek.   With the expiration of the bulk of his mens enlistments, Crawford was shifted to lead a different division in V Corps on June 2. Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle I believe that Vonnegut uses Cat's Cradle as an allegorical tale about what will happen to the world if we are not careful with technology that has the ability to end life on this planet. He points out one of the qualities of humanity; that people make mistakes, thus poisoning our minds and encouraging a better world. One of the obvious ways that Vonnegut uses this book to "encourage a better world" would be by showing that the end of world may come from an accidental release of technology. At the time when this book was written, nuclear war seemed to be an almost certainty. Just thinking about how my mom could die from this, was the scariest thing I have ever imagined, and it was like it was coming true. I struggled the next week, especially in school. I cried almost every night that week. My mother thought I had no emotion about it, but that was not true. I just didn’t want her to feel different. I wanted to treat her like she was normal. I just did not want her to feel like my whole life was changing becau se of her. The next couple of weeks my mother went through two different surgeries. Then she started chemotherapy. She started losing her hair. That was a real tough time in her life, she broke down, and I really had to be there for her. I told her, â€Å"Losing your hair is better than dying. You have had forty-two years of good and bad hair days. One year without hair will not kill you, but keep you around. Then you will have forty more years of hair.† After that she went through radiation. She is in remission and has to take pills for a few more years to keep the cancer away. It has been three years and she is clear from all cancer, but has side affects everyday from what she went through to get rid of the cancer. This is not the only woman going through cancer. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women, it accounts for one of every three diagnoses in the United States. Breast cancers are malignancies, life threatening tumors that develops in one or both breasts. A female breast consists of fatty and fibrous connective tissues. The interior of the breast is divided into about twenty different sections called lobes. Each of the lobes is further divided in to lobules, which are structures that contain small milk-producing glands. These glands place the milk into tiny ducts. These ducts take the milk throughout the breast and store in a chamber located below the nipple. Breast cancer can either be invasive (spreading) or noninvasive (non-spreading). An invasive cancer penetrates the wall of a duct. This type of cancer is the most common, constituting about seventy percent of all cases. Infiltrating lobular cancer that spreads through a wall of a lobule accounts for about eight percent of all breast cancer. This type is likely to appear in both of the breasts, often in seven separate locations. The cause of breast cancer is unknown but researchers are suggesting that estrogen, a hormone produced by the ovaries, may be involved. Studied suggest that the longer a woman is exposed to the hormone (i.e. If she starts to menstruate before the age of twelve or if she went through menopause after the age of fifty-five and/or had children after the age of thirty) are at a greater risk. There are many different options for breast cancer patients. When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer the first step in treatment is usually surgery. Surgery removes the cancer tumor and at times the decision is made to remove the entire breast. For many women the surgery is a life altering change that can cause depression and confusion about the next steps in the treatment of their disease. It is important for women to understand the difference between chemotherapy and radiation so that they can make an informed choice about how they want to proceed. After the surgery a decision has to be made about whether to pursue further treatment. If it is believed through testing that the cancer was not completely eradicated by surgery then the decision to use chemotherapy or radiation is made and treatment is started. Sometimes radiation or chemotherapy is recommended before the tumor is removed. This is to attempt to shrink the tumor before surgery so that the surgery will be less invasive to the breast, which will make reconstruction at a later d ate less difficult to complete. One of the options a woman can make is going through chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a systemic therapy, which means, that it affects the whole body by going through the bloodstream. This makes sure that all cancerous cells have been killed that may have been dispersed for the cancerous site. Chemotherapy otherwise know as chemo helps stop the spread of cancer by killing it. Chemo works best of rapidly dividing cells, which means, in the beginning stages of cancer patients. Most cancer patients have four to eight cycles of chemo. My mom for instance did chemo to make sure everything was gone. She had eight full cycles of chemo. Chemotherapy has many side effects. The problem with chemo is that it does not just affect the cancerous cells but also other noncancerous cells that rapidly divide. It affects the cells in your blood, mouth, intestinal tract, nose, nails, and hair. These body parts, however, have an advantage over cancer cells in that your body can repair the damage that chemotherapy does to your normal cells. This explains why your hair will grow back, your energy levels will rise, and your infections will clear up. And while your body is fighting back, supportive medications can help you control many of the side effects of chemotherapy. While many side effects of chemotherapy fade quickly, others may take months or years to disappear completely. For example, some women experience discomfort in their hands and feet from nerve damage related to the taxanes (Taxol or Taxotere), which can persist for months. It is possible (though uncommon) that chemotherapy may cause permanent side effects. It is hard to know what one may feel though, because everyone reacts differently to chemotherapy. A person may feel all of these side e ffects or just lose their hair; it is extremely hard to predict what one may go through. Another option would be radiation therapy. Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy, x-ray therapy, or irradiation) is the use of a certain type of energy (called ionizing radiation) to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation therapy injures or destroys cells in the area being treated (the â€Å"target tissue†) by damaging their genetic material, making it impossible for these cells to continue to grow and divide. Although radiation damages both cancer cells and normal cells, most normal cells can recover from the effects of radiation and function properly. The goal of radiation therapy is to damage as many cancer cells as possible, while limiting harm to nearby healthy tissue. There are different types of radiation and different ways to deliver the radiation. For example, certain types of radiation can penetrate more deeply into the body than can others. In addition, some types of radiation can be very finely controlled to treat only a small area (an inch of tissue, for example) without damaging nearby tissu es and organs.
